Fundraiser for Junior League Locker Project

Saturday, August 10th, 2019 the Restore Decor fundraiser will benefit the Junior League of Greater Alton (JLGA) and their on-going project, the Junior League Locker.

The Junior League of Greater Alton is a not-for-profit organization of local women promoting volunteerism in the riverbend community since 1952. JLGA is a chapter of the Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. and is dedicated to the empowerment, training, and development of women leaders making an impact in the community.

Over the years, JLGA has supported numerous community organizations and projects. The Junior League Locker is the newest Issue-Based Community Impact project, designed to address clothing insecurities of kindergarten and 1st grade students in the Alton School District. Additionally, each school was stocked with a “Locker” filled with basic clothing needs and shoes that teachers, counselors, and administrators could give to children as needed throughout the school year.

Throughout the Junior League Locker’s pilot school year of 2018-2019, JLGA worked with counselors and administrators in the Alton K-1 centers – Eunice Smith Elementary, Lovejoy Elementary, Gilson Brown Elementary, and Lewis and Clark Elementary – to fulfill clothing requests for students in need on a case-by-case basis. Since January 2019, JLGA has helped 18 children cut the tags off brand new clothing and shoes.

The JLGA is seeking funds to continue to fulfill individual clothing/shoe requests, as well as support the stock in the “Lockers” on-site. Furthermore, they hope to expand the program to meet the needs of older elementary students beyond kindergarten and 1st grade.

Come and shop at one of two locations of Restore Decor from 8:00am-1:00pm Saturday, August 10th at 111 N. Second St. or 223 N. Main Street in Edwardsville. You will be sure to find unique furniture and decor items, and you will be helping support the Junior League Locker!

We know that beauty is on the inside. We also know that sometimes what kids wear can change how they feel and how the world sees them!
